The Coalition for Constitutional Liberties represents the beliefs of millions of Americans who have expressed a concern with the invasions of personal freedoms and constitutional liberties in regards to privacy and technology. With the rapid advancements in technology, our society stands to reap enormous economic and societal benefits from the widespread implementation of technical innovation. However, one major obstacle stands in the way - government intervention.
We understand that the public policy debates on these issues are charting the course for how much freedom and liberties we as citizens will have going into the new millennium. While the Coalition represents a broad spectrum of public policy and advocacy groups, we agree to:
Endeavor
to network with other organizations for the preservation of our constitutional
liberties against attacks by government and other individuals;
Communicate
with our membership and constituency the need to be aware and responsive to legislative
and regulatory activity concerning privacy and technology issues;
Call for legislative oversight of law enforcement and regulatory agencies who act outside
of their authorized bounds, and infringe on the liberties of private citizens;
Educate
legislators and other government officials about the necessity to protect citizens
privacy and restrain efforts to limit the development and use of technology to
accomplish that end; and,
Forward
to other members of the Coalition information regarding relevant events, legislative
and regulatory hearings, policy studies and pertinent news regarding the protection
of our civil liberties to be included in the Coalitions Weekly Updates.
To
that end, we encourage the efforts of the Coalition, and look forward to a mutually
beneficial relationship with the other Coalition members.
